GHC News: Bushra Anjum – GHC 2011 Scholarship Recipient

NSF Sponsored

Attending Grace Hopper is an experience like no other and each GHC scholarship recipient has their own story to tell.  Bushra Anjum is a Ph.D. Computer Science student at North Carolina State University who was a GHC 2011 Scholarship Recipient.  She plans on continuing with the academia track as her career choice.  Bushra attended GHC in Portland last year and one the advice she received from her mentors at GHC was “to get industry experience in my field as well. It will give more breadth to my knowledge and strength to my exposure. ”  So with that advice, Bushra is currently an intern with Intel in their PCCA (PC Client Architecture) team in Hillsoboro, OR campus.  When asked what was your favorite part of GHC, Bushra replied, ” it will certainly be the warmth, the energy, the atmosphere at the Portland Convention Center. I have never seen 3000+ smart, beautiful TECHNICAL women under one roof before! And the experience was further enhanced by the fact that the NSF scholarship completely covered the event for me.”

Often time, it is the cost that keeps many female Computer Science students from attending Grace Hopper Celebration.  The NSF GHC Scholarships aims to help more and more female students in majoring in computing fields.  Bushra leaves one advice to every female Computer Science student is that “MUST attend GHC at least once in their academic career! The sincerity of mentors, the warmth of colleagues, the excitement of academic participants and the passion of industry participants is just infectious. I guarantee you, you will have a time of your life!”
