About the Scholarships

GHC scholarships cover a combination of conference registration, most meals, hotel accomodations for four nights, and fixed amount of travel reimbursement funds. The majority of scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, however, junior faculty, members of non-governmental organizations, and non-profits are eligible to apply.

Underwriters

If your company or institution is interested in supporting student scholarships please contact Jody Mahoney. Thank you to our current scholarship underwriters!

Application Process

Applications for 2009 Grace Hopper Scholarships are no longer being accepted.  Applicants were asked to submit an essay, résumé/CV, GPA, class rank, and letter of reference.  Scholarship decisions were emailed to applicants on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 10 am PST.  Applicants can check the status of their application by logging into their scholarship account.  If applicants need to update information or have questions, please contact the Scholarship Committee.  We recommend that you subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date on any new information and upcoming deadlines.

Recommendations for Additional Funding

In the past, many applicants have received substantial matching funds from their departments or sponsoring companies.  We suggest that:

    1. You assume a leadership role by contacting several of the women in your computer science classes or women-in-computing organization, telling them that you intend to consult with a member (or members) of your department who support(s) gender equity.
    2. Approach your department and suggest that they consider becoming an Academic Underwriter for the conference.  Students scholarships are a benefit of Academic sponsorship.
    3. All of the women in your group meet to brainstorm names of people to approach, regarding funding for GHC 2009, and then explore ways to approach them.
