JW Marriott Green Initiatives
JW Marriott Star Pass Tucson Green Initiatives
• Banquet Department and most food & beverage outlets transitioned to organic in November 2007.
• Resort has committed to accepting only beef and poultry products that are free range and not fed with supplements or growth hormones.
• Resort has committed to being 95% sustainable by partnering with the Tohono O’dam Nation, located 15 minutes from resort. These Native Americans have been organic farmers for generations and now grow, feed, and produce sustainable items for Starr Pass which lessens the carbon footprint that resort has on overall environment.
• Resort has committed to serving 100% line caught fish and has moved away from any farm raised options.
• Resort maintains an organic garden outside of Primo Restaurant that is cultivated and items are used in the restaurant for meal functions.
• Resort produces most of its product on-site. Resort has own bread ovens, prepares most meats and all soup stocks, prickly pear fruit is used for Starr Pass Margaritas, and tequila infusions are all organic with no added simple sugars.
• Resort participates in linen re-use program in housekeeping (Marriott Standard). Bed linens are changed (washed) every 3 days unless otherwise requested by our guests.
• Housekeeping Department will begin recycling all newspapers from guestrooms by June.
• Every department (back of house) participates in paper recycling program.
• Plastic cups in lobby have been replaced with “corn cups” which consist almost entirely of corn and break down in composting within 45 days!
• Every quarter, JW Marriott Starr Pass Associates and families participate in the “clean & green” program in which over 2 miles of Starr Pass Blvd. are cleared of trash left by passing cars.
• 95% of property left in original state of the Sonoran Desert with all plant material. Property participates in xeriscaping (low water landscaping) to save this valuable desert resource.
• All washes kept intact to allow free flow of underground water sources and natural footpaths for animals such as deer, coyote, bobcat and javelina.
• Recycling Committee has been formed with key management positions and line associates to develop further green initiatives and continue to improve our recycling efforts.
