GHC Community: GHC on Twitter

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a Web 2.0 service used to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent updates. If you’re not familiar with it, here’s a short video to explain the concept: Twitter in Plain English. At conferences, Twitter updates (i.e. “tweets”) have become a popular way to share conference news and highlights.

Twitter at GHC09

We’re using Twitter and the tag #ghc09 to share GHC09 updates before, during and after the conference. Anyone can:

  • Follow @ghc, the official GHC Twitterer
  • Read the GHC twitstream of all #ghc09-tagged public tweets.
  • Post your own conference-related tweets to the GHC twitstream. Here’s how:
    • Sign up for a Twitter account, if you don’t have one already.
    • Turn off the “Protect my updates” Twitter account setting so your updates will show up in Twitter’s public stream.
    • Include the #ghc09 tag anywhere in each GHC09-related tweet. You’ll see examples of this on the twitstream or by following ghc.
  • To get the most out of using Twitter at GHC09, personalize your Twitter profile with an image or graphic and information about you and your interests.

Introducing our official GHC09 twitterers!

Our official twitterers are volunteers who make the commitment to tweet about the conference and to assist other attendees in doing the same. Our official twitterers so far (watch for more!) are:

For those who’ve been asking, the twitterer behind @ghc is BJ Wishinsky, Communities Program Manager, Anita Borg Institute.
