The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing 2007 Call for Participation has been issued. Categories and deadlines for submission are:

PhD Forum - March 31, 2007 deadline
Panels, Workshops, and Presentations - March 31, 2007 deadline
Technical Posters - March 22, 2007 deadline
ACM Student Research Competition (SRC) - March 22, 2007 deadline
Birds of a Feather Sessions (BOFs) - March 31, 2007 deadline
New Investigator Technical Papers - March 31, 2007 deadline

The Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing 2007 Call for Participation has also been issued. GHC07 and Tapia 2007 will be co-located in Orlando, Florida.

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) announced today that their bi-annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference, which concluded Saturday in San Diego, will become an annual event. The 2007 gathering is slated for October 17 to 20, in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, ABI plans to co-locate and bridge the Grace Hopper conference with the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing conference, set for October 14 to 17. Read more…

GHC 2006 Stats

This year’s Grace Hopper Celebration was attended by 1290 technical women and men from the U.S. and 13 other countries, representing a 49.9 percent increase over the last conference in 2004. Forty-two percent of attendees were students, from undergraduates to post-doctoral scholars, and of that number, a record 221 attended on scholarships underwritten by universities, corporations, ABI and the National Science Foundation. A record 36 corporate sponsors provided nearly $400,000 in conference funding. Over two and a half days, a roster of more than 200 presenters, including thought leaders from government agencies, leading universities and some of industry’s top technology companies led programs to explore the state-of-the-art in computing technology, examine strategies for attracting and advancing women in science and technology professions, learn career-building skills and celebrate the accomplishments of women in technology. Additionally, a widely diverse technical poster session by students and researchers drew a record 66 entries.

Anita Borg Award Winners Announced

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) will honor two distinguished leaders in technology as recipients of the 2006 Anita Borg Awards during ceremonies on Thursday, October 5, at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, underway here from October 4-7, 2006. Dr. Wendy Hall, Professor of Computer Science and Head of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, UK, and Dr. Carol B. Muller, Founder and CEO of MentorNet, will be recognized for significant and sustained contributions in Technical Leadership and Social Impact, respectively. The Anita Borg Awards, established in 2004 in memory of the late Dr. Anita Borg, honor outstanding leaders who embrace Borg’s lasting vision to change the world for women and technology. Read more…

All-time highs for GHC06!

Registration and sponsorship have reached all time highs for the upcoming Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. ABI said that pre-registration for the 4-day event has far surpassed that of the previous conference in 2004–when 899 women and men attended–and will likely exceed this year’s projected enrollment of 1,200!
